HISTORIC; GREEN/REDDISH BRACTS
An odd little rose, popular with flower arrangers. Essentially a curiosity and a talking point!
A bit of an oddity! The Green Rose bloom comprises sepals on top of sepals on top of more sepals but no flowers are formed. The leaves are long and thin with sharp points. The florets have a slight but pronounced peppery, spicy fragrance which is particularly predominant when the sepals are rubbed. Reaches around 80cm tall. First recorded in the mid-to late 1700s. Makes an interesting addition to floral arrangements.
HISTORIC NOTE: Originating in China, at one time it was forbidden for anyone outside of the Forbidden City to grow this rose. It was literally the sole property of the emperors.
